Despite being recently arrested and charged for graffiti in his home city of Brisbane, Australian artist Anthony Lister made it through to the UK for his new solo show entitled Hurt People Hurt People at Lazarides Rathbone in London. He also managed to paint three murals on the streets in the capital city. The exhibition features colourful canvases highlighting contemporary issues, from seductive female figures in superhero outfits to soldiers and still life paintings. Howard Griffin Gallery is currently presenting an exhibition and sculptural installation by Giacomo Bufarini a.k.a. RUN entitled Parabola di G. The London-based artist began painting murals on abandoned walls in Bologna and Florence in the 1990s under the pseudonym ‘RUN’ and his signature characters with interlocking hands and faces can be found from China to Senegal. Portugese artist Vhils recently opened a new solo show at Galerie Magda Danysz in Paris. Entitled Vestiges, the exhibition showcases his various unique techniques in which he engraves portraits and abstract patterns onto cork, metal, wood and paper. Using these techniques, Vhils continues to explore the ideas of destruction and creation within urban environments and the collective memory of city inhabitants. Check out images from the show below. One of the leading international contemporary art fairs, Frieze London, returned to the heart of the UK’s capital, London’s Regent’s Park, for its 12th edition. This year’s event brings together 162 of the world’s top contemporary galleries to the UK and features exhibitors from 25 countries. New York based artist Kaws was heavily present at the Perrotin Gallery, from his giant Companion sculptures to colourful canvases. Along with the launch of Frieze Art Week in London was the opening of the Frieze Sculpture Park, curated by Clare Lilley, Director of Programme at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Located in the beautiful surroundings of the English Garden, the display of work features contemporary sculptures alongside historical pieces, with new works by both established and emerging artists represented by Frieze London and Frieze Masters exhibitors. Openings: Ludo – ‘The Chaos Theory’ @ Lazarides Rathbone

Following our recent studio visit, AM attended the opening for the solo exhibition of Ludo (interviewed) entitled The Chaos Theory at Lazarides Rathbone. Live butterflies were fluttering during the event in London, much to the delight of onlookers. Inspired by the theory of “The Butterfly Effect,” the French artist decided to focus on a more personal interpretation of his cultural inspirations with a selection of neon green and monochrome canvases. Following his group shows in the US and recent installation at the Toulouse Museum in France, we visited the cabinet of curiosities of lowbrow artist 100taur in Toulouse ahead of his upcoming solo show ‘Monsters in my closet’ at the Artoyz gallery in Paris. We popped by the studio of Ludo (interviewed) in Paris as he prepares for his London solo show The Chaos Theory at Lazarides Rathbone. Using his trademark neon green and monochromatic palette, the Frenchman’s new body of work illustrates themes of chaos, through a battalion of futuristic mechanical butterflies. StolenSpace Gallery is opening the new season in London with two concurrent solo shows from Australian artists based in Berlin – Reka (seen above) with a body of work entitled Trip The Light and paintings from Two One’s collectively named Hunted Hunter’s Head. Reka’s fresh paintings are inspired by his mother, who was a ballerina. His brushstrokes reflect the graceful movements of a female dancer though a monochromatic palette. UK-based artist Phlegm has just finished an outdoor installation (which will be on display until September 28) at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden.
