Openings: Dalek – “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason” @ Hurley )( SPACE

AM attended the opening of  James “Dalek” Marshall’s (interviewed) latest show, “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason”, at the Hurley Space. The unique twist to this show was the interactive opportunity for fans to “compose” their own piece of Dalek art. Sold at $200 dollars a square feet, fans selected from either a 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 feet section from the massive 37 foot canvas mural (previewed). The fun part was watching people slave over their decision on what area to cut and what colors to […]

Looks like Complex Magazine has got a nice little formula built up using great art and music again mashing up nice artistic combos of Jose Parla x T.I. (above) and REAS (Todd James) x B.o.B. (seen after the jump) for the cover of the coming August/September issue of the magazine (your choice). Complex of course aims to give you twice your bang for the buck as one can reverse the “maggie” to find another cover of Lindsay Lohan x KAWS on the flip-side. The issue will be […]

Openings: David LaChapelle – “American Jesus” @ Paul Kasmin

Last Tuesday night, Paul Kasmin Gallery hosted the opening for David La Chapelle’s latest body of work “American Jesus.” We’re not sure if it’s the gallery or David’s following, but the space was jam-packed with onlookers gawking at David’s elaborate digitally rendered photos. Fans dressed up as if it was Halloween, mingling away, waiting to catch some time with the star artist, and much like last month’s crazy Mark Ryden opening, the action spilled into the adjacent streets. The provocative phototography grabbed everyone attention as […]

Last Thursday night, San Diego got a rare dose of great art courtesy of Mark Murphy. The long time collector, curator, publisher, and friend to artists put together another impressive group show, this time entitled “Survey Select”, held at the Wonder Bread Factory. The well attended event kicked off a great July for Los Angeles’ southern neighbor with Viva La Revolucion and SDCC 2010 still coming up. More pics after the jump…
