It looks like Chinese contemporary artist and political dissident Ai Weiwei recently released a parody video of the viral video sensation Gangnam Style. In this cover of Psy’s smash hit, the footage alternates from actual scenes from the music video to AWW and his studio staff dancing to the song including the now-famous horse dance moves. For those Ai Weiwei fans out there who would love to add something from the Chinese artist to their collection, here might be an affordable opportunity. The Serpentine Gallery has released a silkscreen print (signed and numbered) from AWW which will be limited to 200, sized at 84 x 84 cm, and cost £300 (excl. VAT). Recently, the 12th commissioned architectural project of an annual series from the Serpentine Gallery opened to the public. The 2012 piece was a collaboration between famous Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and Herzog & de Meuron, the same team that was responsible for the celebrated Beijing National Stadium which was built for the 2008 Olympic Games. Currently showing at Fondation Beyeler is the first exhibition ever devoted by a Swiss museum to American artist Jeff Koons. The show runs until September 2, 2012 and features a focus on three bodies of works: The New, Banality, and Celebration. Last week, the Mary Boone Gallery hosted the largest collection of Ai Weiwei’s Sunflower Seeds that we have seen since his triumphant exhibition in London at the Tate Modern in 2010. Although much smaller in scale when compared to that museum showing which included 100 million pieces, seeing so many of these tiny porcelain seeds piled together really gives the viewer a sense of the amazing amount of work that went into the production. AM recently visited Taiwan to catch Ai Weiwei’s absent exhibition at the TFAM (Taipei Fine Arts Museum).
