San Francisco’s Park Life will be hosting a July 15th opening for a collaborative exhibition between Francesco Igory Deiana and Atelier Pica Pica entitled Meeting On The Shore. Aside from showing together, the Italian born artist and Belgian art collective actually created the entire body of work together, which resulted in a coherent show. The title was a result of the fact that the artists never really met in person before they decided to collaborate and do this experimental project together. On July 11th, New Image Art hosted the opening of a large SWIM 1 group show. Headlining our Rewind feature this time is a short film documenting Adam Neate’s (interviewed) time in Beijing where he joined street calligraphers in Beihai Park. They all practice the art of DiShu, or water calligraphy where the ephemeral forms disappear as it evaporates. Coming up in December of this year, an interesting pairing of Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei will open at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne before traveling to Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum in June of 2016. Surveying the careers of two of the most significant artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the exhibition will feature over 300 works, including immersive installations and a wide representation of painting, sculpture, film, photography, publishing and social media. Continuing his long collaboration with Lazarides, Ian Francis (featured) recently returned to London for the opening of his new show at the gallery’s flagship Rathbone Place location. The Chosen Form of Your Destroyer consists of new series of mixed media works that explore the coexistence of beauty and destruction in society today, rendered in the British artist’s signature mix of abstract and photorealistic techniques utilizing oil, ink, acrylic, graphite and charcoal. Known of her undulating sculptural creations through the unconventional use of feathers, Kate MccGwire currently has some works on display at various locales. Some of her pieces are at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol alongside work from Peter Randall-Page (through September 10th) – you can read more about it here. This weekend, a show co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will open at the museum. Entitled Invisible College, the group exhibition refers to the fact that many of the participants have found success outside of the traditional art educational model. On the 29th of June, Jan Kalab (featured) opened his ninth solo show at the Villa Pelle in Prague, showing pieces created exclusively for this event. After introducing his art at fairs worldwide, this was an opportunity to put his work on display in his homeland. The Czech artist uses a lot of geometry elements and pure, bright colors in creating his pieces, which often blur the distinction between art and design.
