Previews: Dave Kinsey – “The Modern Condition” @ FFDG

Continuing his exploration of a new series first seen in Cologne & Detroit for a show in San Francisco, Dave Kinsey (featured) has prepared a new body of work entitled The Modern Condition. Comprising of nine works on canvas created with collage and acrylic paints, the new pieces from the Los Angeles-based artist features semi-abstracted figures surrounded with textures and colors from the natural world. With his current solo show now on view at Die Kunstagentin in Cologne, Germany, Dave Kinsey (featured) is continuing to explore a more abstract body of work, which was first introduced at his Detroit solo show back in October 2014 (covered). Die Kunstagentin in Cologne, Germany will be opening a solo by Dave Kinsey on the 5th of February. Titled Ashes To Ashes, the exhibition continues the body of work which was recently presented at the Cushion of Memory show (covered) in Detroit and expresses “the personal impacts of his surroundings and his examination of the relationship between human and nature.” With his new paintings, the former designer artist is taking an abstract direction, while still preferring figurative works. At the end of last month, the Library Street Collective hosted the opening of Dave Kinsey’s (featured) new show entitled Cushion of Memory. Moving somewhat away from the distorted human faces and forms as well as his signature palette anchored in reds, the artist based in the mountains north of Los Angeles has created a triumphant new body of works. Last month, White Walls Gallery in San Francisco opened a group exhibition entitled Space//Squared. Curated by Sven Davis, the showing was a followup to an event last year in Portland (covered). This time around, participating artists were again asked to contribute artwork in a 10 x 10″ format.
