Contests: Faile – Puzzle Boxes Mobile App & Website

Since our last studio visit (here & here) to Faile’s Brooklyn HQ prior to their Bedtime Stories exhibition, we’ve had something we wanted to get off our chest – but, because we were of course sworn to secrecy at gunpoint, we hesitated to spill the beans on a project involving their top secret Puzzle Boxes. Well, now we can breathe a sigh of relief as the collective has given us the green light. We’re happy to tell you about a unique project in which the duo have […]

Auctions: “Under The Influence” @ Phillips de Pury

A little while back, on our day excursion to catch the Will Ryman installation in Manhattan’s Midtown district, we also stopped by Phillips de Pury & Company’s Under The Influence auction (previewed). Held at PDP’s flagship space, this great sale gave us a diverse assortment of top notch artists. A sampling of the roster included Kehinde Wiley, Faile, Ryan McGinley, Joe Bradley, Yoshitomo Nara, Dash Snow, Amie Dicke, Damien Hirst, Lamar Peterson, Dzine, and Mr. One of the interesting things about this event was the […]

Streets: Faile – Prayer Wheel (Williamsburg)

One of the coolest examples of Faile’s outdoor works are the Prayer Wheels (featured) which first debuted at their Lost in Glimmering Shadows show in the UK. These sculptural works are engineered to spin in place while people meditated to their favorite images from the collective. In the past few years, the duo have placed these awesome pieces outdoors for the people to enjoy. Now, they’ve sent us pictures of the latest street intervention which they have deployed near McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Check […]

Releases / Update: Faile – “Wood Faile Flag” & “Scuba Horse” Bronze Sculpture

With a hugely successful 2010 in the rear-view mirror, which included their blowout solo Bedtime Stories, the release of their first all inclusive book, a fun remix of a video game arcade in NYC and London, and their insane Temple constructed in Lisbon, Brooklyn-based artistic duo Faile (featured) have a set of intriguing releases to get 2011 rolling scheduled for today at 12PM EST. First up is a wooden interpretation on their iconic “Faile Flag”. These are 20 unique works – three wooden palettes are conjoined […]

Openings: Steal from Work – ‘Flogging a Dead Horse’ @ The Showroom, Bristol

Steal From Work (the guys that put on the 12 Days of Christmas and Not a Penny More group shows in Bristol) put on their first show in two years on Bristol’s busy Park Street. The production entitled Flogging a Dead Horse promised to be “a group show featuring the best (and worst) urban street contemporary artists in the world” and at first glance they really were true to their words. People wandering in were impressed by original canvases by the likes of Banksy, Hirst, […]

Streets: Happy Valentine’s Day

Those looking for a little love on Valentine’s Day need look no further than the streets. We’ve gathered some images from the last year from C215, Ellis G., Sam3, Escif and Faile that may spark some romance for you. Although some of the pieces may not be exactly what you are looking for. Photos after the jump…

Streets: Faile & Bäst (New York)

Brooklyn based artists and constant collaborators (see Deluxx Fluxx Arcade), Faile and Bäst, recently worked together on this industrial doorway in Brooklyn. A welcome sight in snowy New York for street art fans as the cold season cuts down on the amount of new work this time of year.  You can take a closer look at the salon style installation after the jump but head over to Brooklyn Street Art to get the full set of pics including in progress shots.

Openings: Faile – “Bedtime Stories” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery

AM attended the much anticipated homecoming exhibition for the Brooklyn street art collective Faile last Thursday night. Their solo show “Bedtime Stories” was held at the esteemed Perry Rubenstein Gallery where the traditional white walls were a great contrast to the colorful and image laden exhibition. Utilizing their latest “wood block” concept which we explored in our studio visit (here & here), the Patricks took their symbolic imagery and stories to a new level. Take for example their already iconic “Faile Boxes” which contain images […]

Studio Visits: Faile – “Bedtime Stories” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery Part 2

In part one of our studio visit to Faile’s Williamsburg workshop, we showed you the digs where the magic happens and also took a close look at the uniquely crafted building blocks that form their new works. In part two, we dive deeper into the imagery for their Perry Rubenstein Gallery show “Bedtime Stories” opening this Thursday. The studio seemed like a children’s playland as everywhere we looked there were stacks of beautiful square and rectangular blocks dissected from completed paintings/silkscreens. The Patrick’s affectionately called the […]

Studio Visits / Preview: Faile – “Bedtime Stories” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery Part 1

2010 looked to be a light year for the Brooklyn collective known as Faile (featured). Initially it was just a simple show at a “little gallery” known as Gagosian. Then in Feburary, a hand crafted arcade experience popped up in London. By Spring they created a new arcade show in NYC. Summer brought them to PortugalArte ‘10 where they installed an iconic “temple” in vintage Faile fashion. Between all that, they somehow found time to put together a book and hold a popup shop in the […]
