Basel Week Miami ’09: Faile

AM went back to Basel today to check out a few more things, one of which was the recent work that Faile has been putting together for Perry Rubenstein (seen at recent group show). Studio Visits/Releases: Faile – “Warriors of the Night” Print & Bronze Sculptures

Faile’s been heads-down working on some fantastic goodies that will be released TOMORROW. At Noon EST (9am PST), the collective will release some original works on paper, a new print entitled “Warriors of the Night” from their “Lost in Glimmering Shadows” series and two astounding bronze sculptures. AM visited the studio to view the goods up close and personal, and like past projects, the craftsmanship is top notch and most certainly will not disappoint. We got all the details after the jump.

We have an update for Faile fans as the Brooklyn collective released some stunning detailed pictures of the “Wood Paintings” which we premiered for you (here) at the recent show with their US representation Perry Rubenstein Gallery. These new pieces comprise of multiple paintedÂ snapshots of Faile’s classic imagery meticulously patched together to form a brilliant mash-up of goodness we have come to expect from the artists formerly known as A-Life. Last night, AM visited Perry Rubenstein gallery for their 5 year anniversary show – “The Law of Fives.” This group show featured the works of FAILE (which we will focus on), but the exhibition also includes Zilla Leutenegger, Teresa Margolles, Robin Rhode and Richard Woods. Apparently Faile wasn’t kidding around when they signed with Perry Rubenstein Gallery in their backyard of New York City. With a slated solo show coming in 2010, the NYC artist collective seems to be heads-down working on a fresh batch goodies. Streets: Faile – Update on the Second Spinning Prayer Wheel

As expected, theÂ second spinning prayer wheel installation from Faile was stolen off the streets of Williamsburg a few days after we posted about it. Strange thing is that after disappearing for a few months, the prayer wheel resurfaced earlier this week a few blocks away from its original location with a few tags and some paint added to it. Update: Sotheby’s Contemporary Day Sale Results

Yesterday’s Contemporary Day Sale (previewed) at Sotheby’s in London only had a few lots that AM was closely watching, but the results are a good sign for the overall market. In particular, Faile received a much needed boost with their large canvas “New York City 02” (Lot # 169) selling right in the middle of the estimate for 49,250 GBP and the smaller “NYC Butterfly Girl” on wood (Lot # 168) selling for 16,250 GBP, well over the 12,000 GBP high estimate.
