One week since Banksy’s latest & arguably one of his strongest stunts to date was revealed to the public, we’ve received the first official photographs of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem (covered). With local visitors enjoying the quiet space in an otherwise loud and turbulent area, these images give us an even closer look at the hotel premises, including the artworks which the infamous artist created & installed in the former pottery workshop building. On March 3rd, Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Motoazabu, Tokyo, opened a debut Japan solo exhibition by American artist Austin Lee. Serious Works is sort of a parody title for a show that consists of paintings and sculptures done in Lee’s colorful, naive style. For this showcase, the NYC-based artist created an extensive installation within the gallery space. Hendrik Beikirch will be opening solo show Treasures on the 18th of March at Galerie Droste Wuppertal in Wuppertal, Germany. Amidst all of the street art during this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii, one of the more unique elements of the event that could be observed were the portrait sessions with James Jean (interviewed). Featuring a diverse selection of subjects, the six chosen ones sat for a few hours with the gifted artist as he masterfully captured their visages in a series of loose yet detailed paintings. On the 22nd of February, Urban Nation Museum for Urban Contemporary Art in Berlin hosted a Secret Dinner event for friends, supporters, contributors and artists participating in their ongoing programs. Around 100 guests from around the globe attended the event organized by the museum director Yasha Young and Berliner Leben, a non-profit foundation that initiated the UN project in 2013. Openings: Sam Friedman – “LOVE SONGS” @ Library Street Collective

Showing through April 8 at the Library Street Collective in Detroit is an exhibition from Sam Friedman. For LOVE SONGS, the artist from New York has a series of canvases as well as over 30 paintings on paper on display that look back on his exploration of beach scenes and sunsets. Utilizing a variety of techniques that speak to his background, the colorful work continues his deconstruction and revision of natural landscapes, achieved through a balanced mix of abstraction and figurative elements.
