Previews: Travis Louie – “Before They Became Heroes or Villains” @ William Baczek Fine Arts

Tonight in Northampton, Massachusetts, William Baczek Fine Arts will be opening a new show from Travis Louie (interviewed). The exhibition will see the New York-based artist returning to the site of his showing in the area in 2012, and will feature a new body of work collectively entitled Before They Became Heroes or Villains. Featuring his surreal band of misfits and monsters dressed in proper Victorian attire, the paintings are rendered in acrylic but amazingly look like vintage photos. Forsaking his adopted hometown of Portland for several weeks, Souther Salazar traveled to Denver in order to bring a new installation to life at the David B. Smith Gallery. Working onsite, he created a snow covered landscape full of sloth like creatures ensnared in conflict with a thin tongued beast rising out of a colorful pool. Previews: Thinkspace – “LAX / TXL” & Project M/4 (Berlin)

As previously announced, the Urban Nation project in Berlin is continuing with their fourth phase which includes a pop-up exhibition and mural project curated by Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace. Titled LAX / TXL, the show is opening on Saturday, May 17th in Berlin, and will feature works from an impressive rooster of artists. Similar to their Exploring The New Contemporary Movement show during this year’s POW! Openings: Josh Keyes & Neil M. Perry – “Entwined” @ Antler Gallery

Last month, the the Antler Gallery in Portland opened a joint exhibition between Josh Keyes (interviewed) and Neil M. Perry entitled Entwined. The showing highlighted how both artists were in tune with nature with their work, focusing on the interplay between species and the surrounding environment, often rendered with surreal elements.
