The Tate Modern in London recently brought together William Klein (New York) and Daido Moriyama (Tokyo), two of the most iconic photograpers and film-makers of the 20th century, for an excellent retrospective. Experimental photography, film, graphic design and the role of the photo book are the main focus of both artists. With their blurred and grainy style of photography they were able capture some poignant moments of street photography which became the benchmark for future generations in contemporary photography. Last Friday night, the Riverside Art Museum hosted the opening for the annual exhibition associated with the Baby Tattooville event in the neighboring Mission Inn. As usual, the showing (this year entitled Baby Tattooville Inside Out: A Private Affair Made Public) featured work from the artists who were participating in this year’s art retreat including Coop, Mark Frauenfelder, Brandi Milne (seen above), Nouar, Kathie Olivas, Nathan Ota, Brandt Peters, Ragnar, Rob Reger, and RISK, all who made it out to the opening reception. AM has just arrived at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside for the annual Baby Tattooville art retreat (see our 2009, 2010, and 2011 coverage). Next Saturday night (September 23), the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles will be presenting Giant Robot Biennale 3, its third show (see 2009) in conjunction with Eric Nakamura (interviewed), the founder of Asian American pop culture purveyor Giant Robot. It looks like KAWS is back in Texas for an encore after a successful showing there at the end of last year. Expert paper sculpture artisan Jen Stark recently had one of her pieces acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum for their permanent collection. The psychedelic multicolored piece which looks like it is dripping down the wall is entitled Power of Being and is part of the 40 Under 40: Craft Futures exhibition currently underway at the Renwick Gallery part of the institution which also includes a piece from Olek (mentioned earlier).
