Nuart ’16 / Openings: “Post-Street Art” @ Tou Scene

After days of preparation, the central event of each year’s Nuart Festival was held on Saturday, the 10th of September. On view was a group show by participating artists titled Post-Street Art was in the tunnels of Tou Scene. Like in the past, the space of the former brewery was divided between the artists, some sharing the rooms with collaborative installations and some showing works by themselves. With only one day left for artists to finish their works for this year’s Nuart Festival, a lot murals and smaller pieces are getting completed as we’re writing this. One of the events that marked the official opening of this year’s Nuart Festival on the 8th of September was the opening of Jeff Gillette’s solo show at Nuart Gallery. For Dismayland Nord, the Detroit-based artist brought his iconic “dismayland” imagery to the idyllic city of Stavanger in Norway. While AM is getting ready for trip to Norway for Nuart 2016, we just received couple of work in progress photos by festival photographers Brian Tallman, John Rodger and Calum Lasham. Only few days before the official beginning of Nuart 2016, the team behind one of the leading street art festivals introduced their brand new Art City program. Sofia and the Mountain by NIMI was recently painted in light of Region Stavanger’s new mandate to further promote art and culture. This is the first artwork to be produced under Nuart’s self-financed initiative Art City program. After successfully painting what was billed as the world’s largest outdoor mural (covered) for last year’s NuArt Festival, French artists Ella & Pitr recently returned to Norway to create couple of new pieces in and around Stavanger. Previews: Aron Wiesenfeld @ Galleri Ramfjord

This Saturday, October 3rd from 12 to 2 pm, Aron Wiesenfeld will be opening his first solo in Europe at Galleri Ramfjord in Norway. For art lovers in Oslo, the show will introduce them to the haunting and brooding works of the American artist, full of mystery and rich landscapes. The exhibition will include charcoal works on paper, etchings, and oil paintings, of which some selected preview images can be seen below… Discuss Aron Wiesenfeld here.

NuArt ’15: Recap

With this year’s NuArt Festival wrapping up last week, we now have some more photos of outdoor works that we may have missed in our earlier coverage. Hitting the streets of Stavenger, the roster of artists left their recognizable marks over the Norwegian city like the piece seen above from Ernest Zacharevic that features stitch work to keep the locals warm in the upcoming winter.
