After a whirlwind tour of the nation over the past two years, Shepard Fairey is finally returning for an event in the City of Angels. This event will be a small showcase to illustrate some of Obey’s fine works. This event is presented in conjunction with Arkitip to coincide with the release of the latest issue (#51) of the magazine (featuring Shepard). Preview: Saturday @ Phillips NYC

Last night, Phillips De Pury in New York City held a special preview of the lots from their Saturday sale coming up this weekend. AM loves Saturday @ Phillips because of its increased accessibility compared with other higher-end contemporary auctions, which are typically held on mid-week afternoons and evenings, making them difficult for most working people to attend. In addition, Phillips Saturday sales are known for a wide range of items, including a great selection of urban, street and other emerging art, as well as […]

Shepard Fairey “Supply & Demand” Museum Retrospective to Travel

It seems that Shepard’s recent drama with the AP and Boston’s finest doesn’t phase the higher-ups in the Contemporary Art world. AM has learned that Shepard Fairey’s debut solo museum exhibition “Supply and Demand,” which opened (covered) at the Boston ICA in February, will be traveling to at least two other museums. It is confirmed that after closing in Boston in August, the retrospective show is scheduled to go to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh (October 2009 – February 2010) and then to the Lois & Richard Rosenthal […]

Video: Shepard Fairey installation at SXSW Festival

Following up on our Shepard Fairey hits up SXSW coverage, MyLocationScouts posted a nice video of Shepard Fairey and the Obey Giant crew wheatpasting on the side of Home Slice Pizza in Austin. It’s always nice to see Shep’s artistry in action, showing off his composition, layering, and tearing skills. Via Hypebeast.

Shepard Fairey hits up Austin for SXSW Festival

Shepard Fairey did some urban “spring cleaning” in Austin this past weekend in time for the SXSW Festival. Visiting the Lone Star state with buckets of wheat paste and some good old fashion Obey elbow grease, Shepard hit up many prominent spots including Lance Armstrong’s Bike Shop: Mellow Johnny’s, Red 7, Emos, Home Slice, and many more. We have some awesome in-progress pics of gorgeous murals being put up by the man himself. Shepard Fairey’s 2009 “Hat Trick” list: January – Washington DC: Inauguration & Manifest […]

Shepard Fairey’s Obama – Change on South Park

In yesterday’s South Park “Watchmen x Batman” episode, Mr. Fairey’s Obama “Change” poster is remixed South Park style. It was about time Matt and Trey weighed in on Shepard Fairey’s Obama image, as we were wondering if they lost their edge… apparently not. Check it out the whole episode here.

Google Maps United Kingdom “Street Art” View

One of the most important elements of a strong street art piece is proper placement, which dictates how the work engages viewers through its interaction with the space it inhabits. This context is usually lost when viewing street art online as most photographers are more focused on filling the frame with the work itself. Google Maps changes this, having just added street view imagery throughout the United Kingdom. Street art fans have already been scouring the city, identifying the locations of pieces from Banksy, Blu, […]

Lance Armstrong x Nike Sportswear – “Stages” Touring Art Exhibition Supporting Livestrong

AM was on hand at Nike’s Montalbán Theater last night for the unveiling of “Stages,” a collaborative art project between Lance Armstrong and Nike Sportswear in which artwork from over twenty-one of today’s most prominent artists from across the globe will be exhibited and sold to support Livestrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. After a humor-filled introduction by actor Ben Stiller, Lance Armstrong and Livestrong president Doug Ulman took the stage and were subsequently joined by Nike CEO Mark Parker where they discussed the inception of […]

Shepard Fairey x Lance Armstrong Mural @ Nike’s Montalban

We went by the first few days to take some pictures to show you the day to day progress (after the jump), but this amazing mural will be officially unveiled on Saturday, March 7th at the conclusion of Lance Armstrong’s “Hollywood Ride”, a fundraiser to benefit the fight against cancer. For more info and to register for this ride, please RSVP to [email protected] After a very eventful East coast swing, Shepard Fairey is back working his home turf of LA, and this time it’s a […]
