Recently in Tecate, at the US-Mexico border fence, JR (interviewed) has installed a provocative new project featuring a Mexican boy peering over the barrier. On September 9th, Pastel will be opening a solo show at Athen B. Gallery in Downtown Oakland entitled Space-Landscape. For his debut solo show in the United States, the Buenos Aires-based artist, whose real name is Francisco Diaz, has prepared a selection of paintings and sculptures that mirror his work on the streets paintings large floral based murals. A couple nights ago, Jay Z took to the stage at Virgin V Festival in Chelmsford with a 40 foot inflated Jeff Koons balloon dogg with the blessing of the artist. The rapper is a self-proclaimed admirer of the British sculptor and even included a line – “Oh what a feeling, fuck it I want a billion / Jeff Koons balloons, I just wanna blow up” on his 2013 song Picasso Baby. Upcoming: Jose Parla – “Mirrors” @ Brand New Gallery (Milan)

Coming up on September 21st, Jose Parla will be opening a solo show in Milan at Brand New Gallery that reflects on memories from his travels in Italy. Entitled Mirrors, the new work incorporates parts of posters ripped from off the walls of Milan, Rome, Napoli, Matera, Bari, Lecce and Bologna. This collage technique will add further depth and texture to the Brooklyn-based artist’s signature urban calligraphy, as well as re-contextualizes the found materials. Discuss Jose Parla here.
