Streets: Surface Project (Copenhagen)

The 5th show on Søren Solkær‘s Surface world tour opened on June 12th at Øksnehallen in central Copenhagen. The exhibition itself features 122 portraits of some of world’s most famous street artists, who were all featured in his recent book Surface (covered). To celebrate this big event, the Danish photographer invited six international and esteemed artists to create large-scale murals in the streets of Copenhagen. After leaving a memorable mark in Malaga, Spain in 2013, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be returning to the CAC Malaga for an exhibition opening on June 26th. Your Eyes Here from Shep will be shown alongside a solo with D*Face who painted the two towers with him back when they were in town last. The showing from the man behind OBEY will be a historical overview of works created throughout his 25 year career including paintings, screen prints, stencils, stickers, rubylith illustrations, collages, photographs, sculpture, and works on wood, metal, and canvas. Streets: Miss Van (Coney Art Walls)

After bringing you a look at the walls Maya Hayuk and Ben Eine painted on for the Coney Art Walls, we now have shots of the piece Miss Van worked on. For this wall, the Toulouse legend painted one of her signature poupées between two horses. Entitled appropriately Gypsy with Stallions, the vibrant colors and imagery familiar to street art fans make this mural a worthy addition to the Deitch curated project. Photo credit: Birdman Photos. After sharing some initial photos of artists painting murals for the Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape exhibition opening June 26th at the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA), we now have some more shots for you from over the weekend. Those who follows Shok-1 and his distinctive work on the streets are no doubt familiar with his x-ray spray technique. One of the London-based artist’s most well received murals comes from last year when he merged his aesthetic with pop culture and painted a Pac-Man as it would look if it had bones. After bringing you a look inside the Cyrcle. (featured) studio as they prepped for their Montreal solo, we now have some photos from the opening to share with you. Nothing Exists at Station16 Gallery (showing through July 4th) features the Los Angeles duo’s new works explore themes of themes of religion, science, and duality with their signature design aesthetic. Opening on Saturday night (June 20th) in the Thinkspace Gallery project room is #WhereWeBeelong, a new show from Bumblebeelovesyou. The works for the exhibitioni mirror the Los Angeles-based street artist’s outdoor imagery – whimsical scenes of children at play, of course oftentimes dressed in yellow and black or peppered with references to his namesake. Earlier this week, we stopped by the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) to bring you a look at the epic show taking form that is being put on as a collaboration between the LBMA, Thinkspace Gallery, and the people behind POW! WOW!. Starting Monday, June 22nd, POW! WOW!
