Streets: RETNA (Los Angeles)

The AM crew did a night time driveby past the new RETNA (featured) wall in Beverly Hills recently.  The mural on the side of Gallery Brown isn’t the MSK AWR street calligrapher’s first time putting in work in the area if you remember, as he also put his brush on the walls of the Chanel flagship store in the city recently. Look for more RETNA news as Art Basel Week Miami draws near, but for now, check out more photos through the lens of ©Carlos […]

Events: “Aidan Has A Posse” Benefit @ Wooster St. Social Club

The other night, we attended a great event held at the Wooster St. Social Club for Aidan Has A Posse, a website raising funds for and awareness about Aidan Seeger. Aidan is a young boy who has Adrenoleukodystrophy

(ALD), a rare neurological disorder. But he also has a lot of friends, a posse including the likes of Cope2, Tony Curanaj, Ewok, Todd James, Romon Kimin Yang, Greg Lamarche, Steve Powers and Kostas Seremetis – all of whom donated art works to be auctioned off to […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (Los Angeles) Part I

As we mentioned earlier today, the MK2 Projects District La Brea group show will be opening tomorrow night. In association with the show, a mural will be created by Shepard Fairey (featured) on the former Continental Graphic’s building. AM stopped to catch the progress of Mr. Obey and his crew as they started work on the 30 foot high mural. Take a look at all the photos taken by our ©Carlos Gonzalez after the jump…

Streets / Preview: Herakut – “Behind the Berlin Wall” @ Wende Museum

This Sunday afternoon, November 13th, the Wende Museum presents Behind the Berlin Wall, a private reception ($50 to benefit the museum, call 310.216.1600 ext. 305 for those interested) featuring the unveiling of murals from Herakut, D*Face’s (interviewed), and RETNA (featured) on a remnant of the Berlin Wall, the longest stretch in the world outside of Germany. Although we have featured other artists before who have painted on fragments of the infamous barrier between what used to East and West Berlin, this project is particularly personal […]

Openings: Sickboy – “Heaven and Earth” @ Dray Walk

Initially known for his iconic red and yellow ‘Temples’ sprayed onto wheelie bins and walls across the world, Sickboy returns to London for his second major solo show titled Heaven & Earth. Taking inspiration from Renaissance paintings, religious iconography and surrealist artists like Hieronymus Bosch, Sickboy has spent the last two years building up a new body of work. On large scale paintings with intricate details, religious messages are replaced by Sickboy’s own symbolism and psychedelic world with a positive twist. A resident pastor appears […]

Openings: D*Face – “Burn Brighter” @ Metro Gallery

A couple weeks ago, the Metro Gallery opened their doors to the UK-based D*Face’s (interviewed) and a new body of work. Burn Brighter features original pieces and limited editions, his flutter-dies and chopped up books (which were introduced at the Corey Helford show in LA back in April), as well as many of the cheeky installations he has become known for. Some of his recent outdoor work also made a transition indoors including the concrete spraycans seen on the streets of Melbourne and the large […]

Streets: Phlegm (Switzerland)

While it looks like street muralist Phlegm has had time to work on some drawings for his new book in his home city of Sheffield, he still has found time to leave the UK to work on some walls. This latest piece, put together by Wall Arts Basel, is in Basel, Switzerland and features some of his signature characters involved in some kind of struggle. More detailed pics after the jump…

Streets: Faile Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

AM was recently onsite to bring you Faile breaking ground at the prominent Houston & Bowery mural (before they headed to London for their solo). As you saw in Part I, the basic foundation of the work was a ginormous collage featuring much of the classic imagery created by the collective (both new & old). In an effort to dodge the crazy weather and rain, the two Patrick’s worked morning to night without assistance to wheatpaste the base of their work. After day one, the efforts paid off […]
