On Sunday night, the New Image Gallery debuted their new location with new artwork by the somewhat anonymous figure Neck Face (interviewed) and also the work by an artist simply known as Fuck This Life. Named 2 of Amerika’s Most Wanted, the show featured a variety of drawings by Neck Face that focused on the grotesque, the violent and the ironic. The artist’s latest presentation brought in large crowds of people who were keen on discovering what creative direction the artist would take this time […]

Openings: Eric Haze – “New Mathematics” @ Known Gallery

Over the weekend, the Known Gallery hosted the show entitled New Mathematics. Featuring the work of New York graffiti legend Eric Haze, the exhibition centered around a collection of artwork filled with geometric lines and patterns which give way to both abstract shapes and an aura of cubism. The show featured over 35 different paintings that were carefully detailed against a variety of black, white and gray canvases. Ranging in different sizes, each piece featured interesting and unique designs which can easily engulf the viewer. […]

Streets: Invader (São Paulo) Part II

Last month we brought you coverage of Invader getting up down in São Paulo. It appears either the Parisian artist fell in love with the Brazilian street art mecca and stuck around for the past few week. Or he was so pleased with his previous invasion that he quickly returned for another attack. Whatever it may be, the master of the mosaic has bestowed another round of his 8-bit minions scattered throughout the South American country once again in some pretty impressive and brazen locations. […]

Teasers: Saber – Skywriting (Los Angeles)

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s Saber?! No seriously… Today at noon (PST) graffiti legend, SABER (interviewed) will be taking his talents to a whole new stratosphere. Utilizing several planes (think Blue Angel level coordination) the renowned artist will be skywriting his messages and images for all who care to tilt their head upwards. His target will be downtown Los Angeles and that’s all we can say for now. So if you’re lucky enough to be in the City of […]

Roman Abramovich’s new art museum in St Petersburg will include a giant outdoor hot tub. Don’t miss the final week of foster + partners – the art of architecture in Hong Kong. Jenny Saville paints pregnant women for her Gagosian show. The place to go for artists to get material for their sculptures. […]

FAME Festival ’11: Sam3

In our continuing coverage of this year’s FAME Festival, we now bring you the work of Sam3. Last seen in Poland and Madrid with his more traditional, nature-inspired murals, the Spanish street artist tried something completely different in the streets of Grottaglie. In perhaps a deliberate – or not – riff on VOINA’s infamous Dick Captured by KGB street action, the abstracted lines of spray paint assemble together like a jigsaw puzzle when viewed from an upstairs bathroom window, where the sizable piece is realized […]

Streets: TWIST & AMAZE (Sydney)

After stopping off in Venice for the opening of his latest solo show, Barry McGee (aka TWIST) appears to have continued his world travels abroad by heading down to Australia with long time friend and cohort Josh Lazcano (aka AMAZE). In a nod to arguably their most iconic collaborative mural composition, last seen at the famed Houston & Bowery wall last summer, the THR (The Human Race) crew members went big and bold in the Central Business District of Sydney. The minimalism of the mural, with […]

Openings: José Parlá – “Character Gestures” @ OHWOW (Part II)

First we brought you the opening night action from Los Angeles where José Parlá presented his latest body of work at OHWOW gallery. Now as promised, we give you a more intimate look at the works from the series entitled Character Gestures. As previously mentioned, José created works that exemplified the dynamic range of his talents. From his classic paintings to newer mediums such as mono-transfers, bundles and “concrete” installations, this exhibition clearly demonstrates Mr. Parlá’s skills and dedication to evolution when it comes to his art […]

If you remember, we previously reported on the limited edition and intricate Lady Butterfly sculpture (produced by Tomenosuke Sho-ten) from Aiko Nakagawa earlier this year. The initial silver colorway easily sold out on Valentine’s Day, but the newest black version (limited to 10 each) was released just hours ago 1.00pm (JST) on September 16th and retailed for $550 here. If you are too late to purchase this piece, don’t despair. This is only the second colorway in a planned five colorways so you still have […]

Streets: Phlegm – “calibrating the seeing device” (Croatia)

The pervasive Sheffield street artist Phlegm is at it again, this time in Croatia. After recently endowing the streets of London with a steampunk-inspired flying machine, he bestows the Balkans with the longest, most technologically superior seeing device ever. Brilliantly using the architectural details of the space, Phlegm transforms a security gate at the end of the wall into a entry hatch for his signature characters to gain access inside and calibrate the massive telescope. His monochromatic palette, free hand execution, and whimsical narrative has […]
