Update: Swoon – “The Swimming Cities of Serenissima”

Last time we interviewed Swoon, she was getting ready to set sail on her latest journey (The Swimming Cities of Serenissima) to Venice with her hand crafted fleet of ships. Thanks to our boys at Vandalog, we caught up with Swoon just as her mini-armada arrived for the Bienalle in Venice.  Here are some pics of Swoon and her crew as they docked in in the city of canals. More photos after the jump.

Israeli street artist Know Hope’s Los Angeles solo debut “the times won’t save you (this rain smells of memory)” (previewed) opened to a packed house at the Carmichael Gallery. Patrons were in awe with his intricate gallery installation echoing the theme of the show, which was comprised of cardboard buildings, his signature characters, paper raindrops and fishing twine. Equally as impressive was Know Hope’s latest series of works, which featured a free-form poem of sorts, with a powerful coupling of words and images of his characters in […]

Preview: “Self-Portraits” @ Circle Culture Gallery

AM was lucky enough to get an advance look at what will surely be the most sought after pieces at “Self-Portraits,” Circle Culture Gallery’s latest offering opening tomorrow, Friday, June 5th in Berlin. Seen above is JR’s “Self-Portrait in a Woman’s Eye, Kenya” from the 28 Millimetres series and is a brilliant use of a subject to capture an image of himself. The idea for the show was to approach the historical theme of self-portraits and to bring it into a contemporary art context. See […]

Openings: Slinkachu – “Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow” @ Andipa Gallery

Anyone who has watched the recently released movie “Watchmen” will recognize the themes behind images of fat and balding superheros in miniature photographer and artist Slinkachu’s newest show. AM brings you coverage from the special preview of his show “Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow” at Andipa Gallery. The UK “street” artist, who first gained fame for his “Little People Project” (photographs of tiny models in the streets of London), named this show after Alan Moore’s similarly named book which explores what happens to […]
