Streets: World Roundup (April 16 – 22)

Our weekly summary of street work is lead off by this new piece by the Mexico-based Liqen, whose attention to detail and surreal imagery has not gone unnoticed. He states – “This April I was invited by the “collective tomato” to paint a mural on a recovery project Xanenetla neighborhood, a neighborhood with lots of history to Mexico in the city of Puebla. ”Elotl” in pre-Hispanic Nahuatl language, corn (maize cob) is the staple food of this nation, I wanted to join the family idea how strong is palpable here, making each grain a person or animal, as a unit of a set. For some time I kept this idea to represent Mexico. Other notable walls last week include work from [...]

This wall, which was painted to look as if it was never there is one of many that the young artists in the area have painted over (story via Hyperallergic). Other street work that caught out eyes this week include Vhils (Luxembourg), [...]

After a showing in Amsterdam last November, LUDO (interviewed) continues his exploration of his Nature’s Revenge theme with a new exhibition in Rome. Opening its doors to a new body of work last weekend, Wunderkammern Gallery was taken over by the Parisian street artist’s vengeful creatures in the form of his ad interventions, sculptures, paper pieces, and pastes over found objects. More photos after the jump…

Openings / Streets: LUDO – “Super Discount” @ The Garage (Amsterdam)

Last night in Amsterdam, LUDO (interviewed) opened his third solo of the year at The Garage, bookending what has been a decidedly impressive and pervasive year both on the streets and indoors. Super Discount (previewed) diverged from the the Parisian artist’s graphite on paper modus operandi instead opting for screenprinted multiples on canvas. Inspired by Warhol’s production methodology and paying humble homage to his iconic Campbell’s soup collection, the series is comprised of nine provocative and visually compelling Del Monte can variations, each uniquely hand-finished [...]

With his debut gallery exhibition in the spring followed up by another solo in the summer, LUDO (interviewed) will be ending things on a high note with his third show of the year. Opening Saturday, November 26th, Super Discount will see the Paris-based street artist will bring his signature brand of green tinged work to The Garage in Amsterdam. For the first time, the artist will also produce some work on canvas, something he has thus far shied away from. Long fascinated with Warhol’s production [...]
