On Saturday, the 31st of January, Museu Casa do Pontal will be inaugurating new work by Brazilian artists Os Gemeos. Created exclusively for this institution, the twins’ first permanent installation will be entitled The Bunker. The activities will begin in the afternoon at the Municipal Theatre, in Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro, with an open conversation with artists Gustavo & Otavio Pandolfo, mediated by curators Paul Portela and Angela Mascelani, followed by the installation reveal and a live concert by Siba. Die Kunstagentin in Cologne, Germany will be opening a solo by Dave Kinsey on the 5th of February. Titled Ashes To Ashes, the exhibition continues the body of work which was recently presented at the Cushion of Memory show (covered) in Detroit and expresses “the personal impacts of his surroundings and his examination of the relationship between human and nature.” With his new paintings, the former designer artist is taking an abstract direction, while still preferring figurative works. On the 26th of January, Galerie C.O.A in Montral will be opening Récidive, a solo show by the “fire painter” Spazuk. The distinctive technique he uses is called fumage, which allows him to use the flame of a candle or torch as a “paintbrush” to create his paintings with trails of soot. He later manipulates these trails by using various needles, razors, and makeshift bird feather pens, which result in incredibly detailed black and white works on canvas, panel or paper. Ludo (interviewed) recently spent a few days in Amsterdam, leaving his mark around the city and its canals. Pasting mostly skull based pieces, the Paris-based artist left some familiar images as well as introduced few new concepts. As seen in the photos, the works were done around the Jordaan neighborhood of the city, an area already known for great street art.
