Spanish artist Escif recently did a whole series of new street murals titled Fast Food Is Not a Crime on the streets of his hometown, Valencia. Known for his simple imagery, and use of colors that blend with the surroundings, these 4 pieces show the most recognizable fast food meals out there – hamburgers, hot-dogs, fries and pizza. Ron Mandos Gallery in Amsterdam entered the new year with, Heimlich, a solo show by the Dutch artist Maurice van Tellingen. For this exhibition, he created new sculptural works in his familiar style, where his pieces “resemble reality just like reality resembles itself”. Lj Galerie in Paris is currently hosting a solo show by American street art stalwart, Swoon, until the 15th of January. Motherlands is Swoon’s third solo show in the French capital and it opened on the 30th of November. For this show, the US-based artist created a series of hand-painted linocut prints on mylar, which are composed into a site specific installation inside the gallery space. Sainer, member of the infamous Etam Cru, rounded out a succesful year with a solo show at Galerie Itinerrance in Paris. Known for supporting young artists coming from the graffiti/street art movement, the showspace and their patrons were a successful combination for the Polish artist’s French debut. Even though most of the works were large size canvases, Neverland entirely sold out only few days after the opening. Dutch painter Chris Berens recently opened his long awaited first ever solo show in Japan at the Megumi Ogita Gallery in Ginza, Tokyo. The Dutch Culture USA program by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York and the 250 Wynwood development team joined their efforts and organized the Caleidoscoop event during Art Basel Week in Miami. During Art Basel Week in Miami the Yo <3 305 Gallery in Wynwood brought together the work of seven muralists from around the world for a Fordistas collective exhibition entitled The Art of Collaboration: Friends and Family.
