We start this weeks roundup of street activity with this new fun piece from Dabs Myla. As you can see, their choice of subject matter was quite interesting and can be summed up by their description – “Poop Shooting, Vampire Dicking, and Crack Smoking.” The piece was painted for Roger Gastman for his backyard (thus the Orioles reference). Our Streets: World Roundup feature returns this week with a summary of murals you may have missed out on. Our highlighted piece this time is this monster collaboration from REVOK and RIME of MSK fame for the Detroit Beautification Project. Leading off our summary of last week’s notable public art is this mural from Philippe Hérard (photo by morac19, via Juxtapoz). Utilizing a mixture of paint and newspapers, Hérard is able to create a whimsical piece for the streets of Paris. The motor city has become one of the hotspots for street activity recently as the tanking economy has ironically led to more abandoned buildings facilitating the rise of public art. For our streets roundup this week, we’ll start with this interesting new piece in Detroit. The mural painted by SEVER was taken from the Instagram feed of SABER (interviewed) and looks to be a tribute piece to some of the greats in the street art scene like Barry McGee, Os Gemeos, Kaws, Futura, and Shepard Fairey. Baltimore seems to be a hotspot for street art recently. Our weekly summary of street work is lead off by this new piece by the Mexico-based Liqen, whose attention to detail and surreal imagery has not gone unnoticed. He states – “This April I was invited by the “collective tomato” to paint a mural on a recovery project Xanenetla neighborhood, a neighborhood with lots of history to Mexico in the city of Puebla. ”Elotl” in pre-Hispanic Nahuatl language, corn (maize cob) is the staple food of this nation, I wanted to join the family idea how strong is palpable here, making each grain a person or animal, as a unit of a set.
