There will be an interesting pairing of artists tomorrow night at the Shows & Tell Gallery in Toronto with a new exhibition entitled Double Rainbow Rainbow opening. Jen Stark, who is known for her intricately beautiful paper cuttings will be showing alongside NYC-based Maya Hayuk. Both have shown their mastery in working with colorful patterns – Stark in the three-dimensional and Hayuk in paintings. It looks like Newcastle-based Hush’s (interviewed) will be returning (see 2009) to Los Angeles for another solo show on May 21st, this time at New Image Art. Judging from the photos, his work is becoming increasingly more intricate and textured; something that was evident in his NY show last year (covered). Children of a Lesser God, the first UK solo show by Los Angeles-based artist Sage Vaughn opens today at Lazarides Gallery in London. AM visited the artist’s studio last year as he prepared for both this exhibition and the release of hand-painted multiples — the latter screenprinted by Modern Multiples and painted with watercolours. On May 7th, Subliminal Projects will be hosting a new group exhibition. The premise of the show is to gather together artists of today with their interpretation of classical figure painting but with a contemporary twist. Participants include Mary Jane Ansell, Sean Cheetham, Ron English (featured), Benjamin Bryce Kelly, Miles ‘Mac’ MacGregor, Ann Marshall, Stephen Wright, and Jonathan Yeo.
