AM swung by David Choe’s satellite studio for a visit as the artist was preparing for his upcoming show at FIFTY24SF. Choe, who lives and works in New York City, has deep roots with both Los Angeles and the Bay Area and has maintained a makeshift studio a half hour south of San Francisco for the past two years. San Francisco based artist Andres Guerrero is set to open a new show at Subliminal Projects on February 6th. His art has been a boon for him to equate the personal emotions of losing loved ones in his life. While at first his skulls may seem morbid, on second glance, it also contains the duality of life and its fragile yet wondrous nature. The recent appointment of Jeffrey Deitch as the new Director of MOCA has spurred much rumor and speculation regarding the continued operation of Deitch Projects and their scheduled exhibitions. It has been confirmed by the museum and by Mr. Deitch himself that all commercial activity on his end will cease by June 1, 2010, meaning Deitch Projects as we all know it will shutter. We’ve been following the work of Brooklyn artist Kevin Cyr for a little while now and we were excited to hear that he has a new body of work appearing at Raandesk Gallery of Art in New York. “Behind the Curtain” also features Jason Bryant, whom Cyr met whilst they were both working as assistants for Kehinde Wiley.
