Boa Mistura or “Good Mixture” is made up of five Spanish artists, Arkoh, Derko, Pahg, Purone and Rdick, who have developed their work in different fields including graffiti and mural painting, to graphic design and illustration. It looks like Vhils (filmed) has been putting in work in Shanghai as he prepares for his show opening on March 31st at 18 Gallery (presented by Magda Danysz). Like JR before him, he’ll be introducing some of that European street aesthetic to the Chinese port city. Even though he’s currently preparing for a show at Known Gallery this upcoming weekend with fellow 7th letter member ZES, RETNA took the time to hit the streets of Los Angeles again. Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) brought the OBEY show to Dallas for a series of street murals at the request of the Dallas Contemporary. In conjunction with the project, the institution which is modeled after European kunsthalles or art centers also hosted PHENOMENON, a party with Shep providing the music as DJ Diabetic. At this year’s Art Los Angeles Contemporary, visitors were greeted at the fair’s entrance with Judy Chicago’s dazzling performance installation, Sublime Environment. As part of Pacific Standard Time’s Performance and Public Art Festival, the large scale installation was created with 25 tons of dry ice, with help from the Silverlake non-profit, Materials & Applications, and a group of 40 volunteers. So, you may remember the internet frenzy last month when photos leaked of David Choe (featured) painting and tagging up a storm at the new Facebook headquarters at the request of Mark Zuckerberg. What we didn’t know was that when he decorated the previous FB building with his murals several years ago, David elected for stock options instead of cash payment.  The New York Times now reports that those shares are worth upwards of $200 million based on the new IPO calculations.
