Showing: Mitar Matich – “Encaustics” @ Galerija Juraj Klovich

On April 13th, Mitar Matich introduced his latest body of work at Juraj Klovich Gallery in Rijeka, Croatia. Named after the ancient technique of hot wax painting, Encaustics consists of mostly medium and large size works depicting wildlife caught with camera traps. These pieces are the continuation of the Croatian artist’s constant experimenting with different techniques and approaches to creating work. Though not very popular nowadays, encaustic technique was used extensively in the past from Egyptian mummy portraits all the way to works of 20th-century North American artists, to artists in […]

Releases: Pixel Pancho – “Hold You Up Forever” Screenprint

Pixel Pancho will be releasing his new, self produced print Hold You Up Forever on the 26th of April via his online shop. Somewhat more simple than his usual work, the image was originally created as a sketch for Valentine’s Day. Due to the overwhelming response by his fans and friends, the Italian artist has decided to develop this sketch into a print. The image depicts a human hand holding a robotic hand and is a classic example of artist’s steampunk aesthetics and play with […]

Streets: Nuart Aberdeen 2017 (Part II)

The other day we did a quick report about some of the new art that was popping on the streets of Aberdeen this past week, so today we’d like to bring you final look at Nuart Aberdeen. From dark alleys, grimy backstreets, to some of the most prominent hotspots of the city, this event produced a series of fresh murals, interventions and public artworks, changing the image of the Grey City. One of the instant local favorites was the brand new piece (seen above) by […]

Previews: Eric Yahnker – “Alternative Fiction” @ The Hole (Art Brussels)

After a showing at The Hole in New York last year (covered), Eric Yahnker will again be the gallery’s focus when Art Brussels opens tomorrow. As evidenced by the work that will be on display, the Los Angeles-based artist has not lost his sense of humor as he continues to navigate political issues, pop culture, and memes with ease (sometimes his best paintings are a combination of these themes). Take a look at more preview images below… Discuss Eric Yahnker here.

Upcoming: Boris Tellegan – “Pieces” @ Backslash

Returning for his third solo show with Backslash on April 20th, Boris Tellegen aka Delta will be presenting a new body of work entitled Pieces. Included in the exhibition are a series of paper collages (pictures here), sculptures, and installations, all strongly influences by the Dutch artist’s interest in architecture (also seen with his work on the streets). Rounding out the show will be a  projected video that retraces the lettering he famously applied to trains between 2014 and 2017. Discuss Boris “Delta” Tellegen here.

Previews: Kelsey Brookes – “Position” @ Library Street Collective

On April 27th, Library Street Collective will be presenting new works from Kelsey Brookes, his second solo with the gallery in Detroit. Entitled Position, the show continues the San Diego-based artist’s practice of combining his love for science and his artistic vision, drawing from his background as a former biologist and from his interest in psychedelics. The new pieces investigate both neurotoxins and the Fibonacci sequence, one which is harmful while the other a pattern of perfection in nature, all expressed with his abstract virtual language. Take a […]

Previews: Eric Joyner – “Tarsus Bondon Dot” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On May 6th, Eric Joyner (interviewed) will be returning to Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles for another solo show. Entitled Tarsus Bondon Dot, the new body of work continues the San Francisco-based artist’s penchant for painting robots and donuts. Joyner visits some familiar scenarios for his automatons like his riff on Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots as well as silly scenes where his fried desserts make an appearance. Take a look at more preview images below… Discuss Eric Joyner here.

Showing: The Lost Object – “Finder/Builder” & Low Bros – “Wired” @ Stolenspace Gallery

Stolenspace Ballery in London is currently hosting a double solo show, presenting new works by The Lost Object and Low Bros. The first is an Amsterdam-based artist who is showcasing his latest body of work created with discarded or abandoned materials, while the Berlin-based art brothers putting their newest retro futuristic animal-based compositions on display. Hyland Mather aka The Lost Object creates works that are sort of a collaboration between him and time & nature itself, hence the title Finder/Builder. He is purposely incorporating the materials’ flaws and history […]

Showing: Jamian Juliano-Villani – “Sincerely, Tony” @ Massimo De Carlo (Milan)

Currently showing through the end of the month with Massimo De Carlo in Milan is an exhibition from Jamian Juliano-Villani. Entitled Sincerely, Tony, the new body of work from the American artist, who isn’t shy about appropriation, continues her voracious practice of gathering source material from things like as pop culture, TV, magazines, movies, and art, then filtering them through her mind followed by a collage-like approach of rendering them onto canvas into eerie and surreal compositions. Rounding out the exhibition is a site-specific installation that looks […]
