Our global summary of street work returns this week with a look around the world but heavily tilted towards Florida due to Basel Week Miami. This week’s look at public art around the world is headlined by this new piece (source) from Case (aka Andreas von Chrzanowski) in Frankfurt, Germany. Painted at the construction site for the future European Central Bank headquarters, the MaClaim crew member painted Pinnochio being manipulated by a pair of hands, making some sort of political statement. Streets: Le 4eme MUR 2012 – Recap

After reporting on Escif’s murals for Le 4eme MUR last year (here & here), we now have a recap of the 2012 edition. The festival’s name (translated to “the fourth wall”) is a theater expression that symbolizes a virtual wall between the actor and the public which can apparently also be applied to the work of the street artist and his audience. This year’s lineup includes a return of Escif along with Mr Jago, Vhils (above), Tellas, Ericailcane, and 108. Check out more photos below…

This week’s Streets: World Roundup feature is headlined by a new mural (photo by Lois Stavsky) in New York City by Ron English, who worked overtime to finish it before Hurricane Sandy hit. The piece (on Mulberry Street between Canal and Hester in New York’s Little Italy) depicting his Temper Tot character is a English’s first mural in Manhattan in about 25 years as part of The New York Comedy Festival and Vandalog’s series of indoor and outdoor installations collectively titled The Art of Comedy. We lead off this week’s review of street art with a new mural from Roa in Puerto Rico. Painted for the Los Muros Hablan Festival, the Belgium-based muralist rendered a giant Iguana (an invasive pest there, chewing up plants and crops and burrowing under roads and dikes) holding a Coquí, a small frog endemic to the island. Our Streets: World Roundup returns this week with this collaborative mural from Serbian twins Sobekcis and Zoer at the top of the list. Streets: Escif (Peru)

Spanish street artist Escif never seems to stop, with each new mural (often times with a political message) documented on his blog street against. This time, the prolific painter headed over to Cerro de Pasco, Perú to work on a new piece pointing out another injustice. He states – “In order to expand the vast open pit from which the deposits of minerals are extracted, each year entire neighbourhoods in the town are demolished and their residents forced to relocate.” Discuss Escif here.
