Streets: World Roundup (July 23 – July 29)

This week’s roundup sees the return of David Ellis to the streets after the massive mural painted in Brooklyn last month. This latest tree piece was commissioned by Converse as part of they Wall to Wall campaign and features Ellis’ sinuous pattern (photo by Justin Carlson and courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery). Streets: World Roundup (July 16 – 22)

Leading off last week’s Streets: World Roundup is this amazing mural (seen above) painted over the course of a year by Josef Kristofoletti. The project was commissioned by the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research and was painted on the side of the ATLAS control room directly above the detector, near the Swiss-French border outside of Geneva by the Texas-based artist. Streets: Escif (Spain)

It looks like Escif was caught up with the Euro 2012 fever that had his home country in its grip as he painted this piece entitled The Rescue leading up to the final. After Spain was crowned the UEFA champion, the street artist turned his attention to more serious topics with a mural (seen below) dealing with the cuts the country has had implement as it becomes increasingly mired in the financial crisis of Europe. Streets: Escif for Memorie Urbane (Italy)

Spanish street artist Escif was recently invited to Gaeta, Italy for the Memorie Urbane Festival where painted a mural entitled Angolo Di Riflessione or Angle of Reflection. The image may look familiar because just up the coast at Isola del Giglio in Tuscany, the Costa Concordia partially sank taking the lives of 32 passengers and crew, an incident which was tainted by the controversial actions of the captain. Openings: “The Rejects” @ Reed Projects Gallery

Last weekend in Norway, the inaugural show at Reed Projects Gallery, The Rejects, opened featuring work from Vhils, Roa, Escif, Dolk, Evol, Dan Witz and Brad Downey. The new showspace is the brainchild of the same people behind the annual Nuart Festival in Stavenger and presumably will now become the indoor gallery of those artists involved.
