We just received these photos of new works by Pejac created few days ago in Hong Kong. The artist who is known for his witty concepts recently spent a few days in a former British colony leaving several diverse works throughout the city. Tackling the problems of overpopulation and limited rights, the “Umbrella Revolution” as well as Chinese tradition, most of the works were very small in scale but large in their message. Showing: Invader – “Wipe Out” @ The Qube (Hong Kong)

Showing through the end of this weekend is a show entitled Wipe Out from Invader in Hong Kong at The Qube, PMQ (35 Aberdeen Street, Central). The title of the exhibition is in reference to the extremely efficient and quick removal of 90% of his famed tiled creations from the streets of the metropolis by cleaning crews after getting up earlier there this year (here & here). Part of the work on display is a re-creation of these pieces and the photo documentation of their brief existence in the wild. […]

Upcoming: Gary Baseman – “Happy Toby To You” @ Time Square Hong Kong

On May 21st, Hong Kong’s Time Square will be welcoming in another artist (see Mike Stilkey and Yoskay Yamamoto) to create an installation arranged by LeBasse Projects at the mall complex in Causeway Bay. In celebration of his character Toby’s 10th birthday, Gary Baseman’s (interviewed) faithful companion will be part of a new sculptural installation set up as a birthday party with his dear friends. After some advance street activity (covered here & here) in Hong Kong earlier this year, Invader will be returning with a show opening on May 2nd at The Qube, PMQ (35 Aberdeen Street, Central). Entitled Wipe Out, the exhibition (presented by the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Foundation [HOCA] & Le French May) will be the French mosaic specialist’s first solo in HK. Right after releasing his recent limited edition lithograph (covered), Ludo (interviewed) traveled back to Hong Kong and China, and pasted some fresh works there. Continuing his ongoing Chaos Theory theme with butterflies as a signature character, in Hong Kong he left an image of a butterfly with handcuffs holding his wings along with the Both Sides of a Gun image he introduced in France back in August. On view through tomorrow in Hong Kong at the local Gagosian in Central is Sterling Ruby’s show VIVIDS, his first with the gallery. The new series of works created with spray paint with a vibrant red and pink palette was inspired by the beautiful sunrises and sunsets he sees in Los Angeles.
