Streets: Pejac (Hong Kong)

We just received these photos of new works by Pejac created few days ago in Hong Kong. The artist who is known for his witty concepts recently spent a few days in a former British colony leaving several diverse works throughout the city. Tackling the problems of overpopulation and limited rights, the “Umbrella Revolution” as well as Chinese tradition, most of the works were very small in scale but large in their message. This once again shows the strength of public art in it’s most basic form. Re-thinker […]

Showing through the end of this weekend is a show entitled Wipe Out from Invader in Hong Kong at The Qube, PMQ (35 Aberdeen Street, Central). The title of the exhibition is in reference to the extremely efficient and quick removal of 90% of his famed tiled creations from the streets of the metropolis by cleaning crews after getting up earlier there this year (here & here). Part of the work on display is a re-creation of these pieces and the photo documentation of their brief existence in the wild. […]

Entitled Wipe Out, the exhibition (presented by the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Foundation [HOCA] & Le French May) will be the French mosaic specialist’s first solo in HK. The title of the show comes from the famed street artist’s experience with his work earlier this year in HK where 90% of his pieces were removed by cleaning […]

Basel Week HK ’15: Art Basel Hong Kong – (Part II)

One of the great things about Art Basel Hong Kong is the fact that galleries and artists alike make moves in consideration of the Asian markets they are showcasing in. Every year we get to feast our eyes on blue chip Asian artists such as Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Yue Minjun, Liu Wei, Yayoi Kusama, Mr. (pictured above), Cai Guo Qiang and Zhang Xiaogang, exhibiting besides some of the western world’s most coveted names such as Jean Michel Basquiat, KAWS, Keith Haring,  Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, […]

Basel Week HK ’15: Art Basel Hong Kong – (Part I)

The Basel Art Fair circuit is pretty clear cut when it comes to scheduling for its mainstay fairs around the world. Art Basel takes Europe in June, Art Basel Miami takes hold of North America in December and Asia circles the calendar in May for the art world to visit Art Basel Hong Kong. But this year, the folks in charge of Art Basel shook things up and moved the fair to March. AM recently visited Hong Kong to catch the event in Hong Kong at […]

Streets: Ludo (Hong Kong / Shanghai)

Right after releasing his recent limited edition lithograph (covered), Ludo (interviewed) traveled back to Hong Kong and China, and pasted some fresh works there. Continuing his ongoing Chaos Theory theme with butterflies as a signature character, in Hong Kong he left an image of a butterfly with handcuffs holding his wings along with the Both Sides of a Gun image he introduced in France back in August. These new pieces are probably referring to the  turbulent situation in the country and the clashes of protesters with the […]

On view through tomorrow in Hong Kong at the local Gagosian in Central is Sterling Ruby’s show VIVIDS, his first with the gallery. Right on the heals of a successful opening of his solo in Los Angeles (covered), KAWS has returned for a second engagement at Harbour City in Hong Kong. The star of the event was a new sculptural installation featuring a cluster of his signature companion figures entitled Clean Slate, situated in the Ocean Terminal forecourt where his previous massive Passing Through companion could be seen back in 2010 (covered). Complementing this was the New York-based artist’s imagery all along the corridor leading into the shopping complex […]

On the 12th of September, Aisho Nanzuka gallery opened Todd Jame’s first solo show in Hong Kong. Afternoon Delight includes 15 new paintings on canvas and several paper pieces, continuing his series of colorful works that parody the images and information from everyday TV and newspapers. Somali pirates shown as fashion models, voluptuous naked blondes as glamurous pinups, or war machines as cartoon-like characters, this is Todd James’ colorful vision of our reality. Known for his use of “innocent lines and forms along with colorful palate recalling […]
