Tomorrow (May 10th) at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, a new exhibition from KAWS will be opening to the public. ALONE AGAIN will occupy the museum’s main space and feature five sculptures, three paintings, and a site specific work from the Brooklyn-based artist. A couple weeks ago, Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York opened up a solo show from Jose Parla entitled Anonymous Vernacular. One of the things that stands out to us about the Cuban-American artist’s work are the rich textures and complex layers he creates in each of his pieces, a collage of oil paints, graffiti inspired scrawl, acrylic finishes, and torn advertisments. Currently on display at Brussel’s Xavier Hufkens are a series of sculptures, paintings and video work from Paul McCarthy in a show entitled Mixed Bag. Earlier this week, the West 24th Street location of the Gagosian Gallery in New York opened a solo show from Jonas Wood featuring new paintings and works on paper. The fresh selection of work continues his use of art references, plants, everyday objects, and people in architectural interiors and exteriors, as well as a series of his depictions of pots and ceramic vessels.
