Openings: Marco Mazzoni – “Naturama” & Lindsey Carr – “La Petite Singerie” @ Roq La Rue Gallery

There is an old saying that the window to your soul is through the eyes. Marco Mazonni has capatilized on this, by excluding them from his brilliant color pencil drawings. The exclusion mystifies and intrigues, while the surrounding plants, flowers, and familiar animals try to ease our reactions.  Naturama features three larger works and a bounty of smaller pieces on moleskin paper, giving us a detailed look into Mazzoni’s animal kingdom. Several of the smaller pieces feature a monotone palette, with a ball-point pen replacing the usual colored pencils. Mimicking portraits […]

Openings: Mary Iverson – “Sunk” @ Davidson Galleries

AM recently visited Mary Iverson in her studio leading up to the open of her Sunk exhibition. With the work complete, it was time to take it to the masses at Davidson Galleries in Seattle. The large landscapes filled the space with nature, but the veil of over-population and consumerism permeated the scenes as etched lines and shipping containers. There are also some smaller mixed media pieces which tackled the climate change topic and the inevitable rise of the worlds oceans. To cap it off, […]

After an interview with Ray Caesar back in 2011, we caught up recently with him again to talk some more about his art, his inspiration and his method. The opportunity presented itself shortly after the October 3rd opening of Truth, Light and Matter at Gallery House in Toronto, Canada – an unusual display space whose premise is to deliberately partner with galleries around the world on behalf of the artists. Take a look at our Q&A’s below… Arrested Motion (AM): During previous interviews, a lot has been written about […]

Showing: Sweet Toof & Rowdy – ‘Drifters’ @ See Studio

Editor’s note: This post was guest written for AM by Alex Ellison. Having seen Alex’s photography captures of the work by these two prolific street artists over the years, and his expert knowledge of the historical context of their work, there seemed like no-one better than Alex to cover this exhibition for us even though we’d made the trip to London to see the exhibition ourselves…  Last weekend saw the opening of Drifters, a joint show of new work by Sweet Toof and Rowdy, following on from […]
