This week’s Streets: World Roundup feature is headlined by a new mural (photo by Lois Stavsky) in New York City by Ron English, who worked overtime to finish it before Hurricane Sandy hit. The piece (on Mulberry Street between Canal and Hester in New York’s Little Italy) depicting his Temper Tot character is a English’s first mural in Manhattan in about 25 years as part of The New York Comedy Festival and Vandalog’s series of indoor and outdoor installations collectively titled The Art of Comedy. Officially opening their doors just hours ago, Galerie Perrotin in Paris unveiled all new works from the NY-based KAWS in his highly anticipated solo Imaginary Friends. Highlights of the show included multiples of his running chum canvases (also replicated as showcards making a nice souvenir) as well as creatively-shaped irregular piece that appeared to be mirrored in a more conventional painting right next to it – leading to an interesting side by side comparison. Tonight at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, there will be showing from Kevin Peterson and Jacub Gagnon (interviewed). For his part, Peterson has brought a set of new works with him entitled Amended, all featuring his portraits of innocence, oftentime represented by children, superimposed over gritty of urban landscapes. For this exhibition, some of his works have an almost retro feel to them with old school adverts and logos inserted to add an extra layer to his narrative. It’s time to update you on something that German duo Herakut have been working on recently – The Giant Storybook Project. Acting on their long-time desires to create a children’s book, Jasmin (interviewed) and Falk have taken to the streets around the world to paint the “pages” of their story. Streets: “Elevate South Broad Mural Projects” (Atlanta)

Last week, artists Hense, Push, Tilt (above), Sever, and Born came together to paint some new walls for the Elevate South Broad Mural Project in Atlanta. Located at South Broad Street between MLK Boulevard and Mitchell Street, the new work beautifies an area that sorely needed some love. Openings: GILF! @ Galerie Swanström

Last week, AM attended GILF!’s (featured) solo exhibition at SOHO’s Galerie Swanström. The witty Brooklyn-based artist showcased a new series of urban artworks that dealt directly at the challenges facing contemporary societies and politics. Not pulling punches, GILF confronted issues such as healthcare, birth control, politicians and environmental concerns. Her stencils and comments were a hit with all that were in attendance.
