Releases: Patrick Martinez – “Word Play” Limited Edition Neon Sign

We have featured Patrick Martinez and his neon signage before here on AM, especially the coverage of his solo show Hustlemania at Known Gallery back in March. This particular aspect of his work typically is influenced by hip hop phraseology leading a transformation of this common advertising motif into something completely different. Fans will now be able to add one of these signs affordably to their collection as Patrick is releasing a unique limited edition. WORD PLAY will come in a run of 20, sized at […]

Previews: José Parlá – “Character Gestures” @ OHWOW (LA)

José Parlá explores that delicate balance between creation and destruction. As if ancient relics recovered from some archeological dig, his paintings are like modern hieroglyphs each telling a story of a time and place, that of the here and now. While taking on a timeless feel, the protagonist in his tale has always been the city. Dynamic juxtapositions – roughness and fluidity, complexity and minimalism, harmony and chaos – illuminate the soul of his urban muse. With his first solo exhibition since Walls, Diaries, and […]

As you know, REVOK, RIME, and ROID recently opened a fantastic new show Perseverance at the Known Gallery in Los Angeles (covered). The three writers were actually in Detroit prior to the show working on the paintings and incubating ideas. Apparently, they also found time to make a pit stop in Chicago to paint this wall before heading to California. POSE (who collaborated on a couple pieces with Revok for the show) and OMENS also worked on this mural with the trio together. Closer looks […]
