We were granted access during the set-up as Sixe Paredes (formerly known as Sixeart) was prepping the launch of his new exhibition on May 21st entitled Futurismo Ancestral: An Offering to Peru at Somerset House in London (curated by Approved By Pablo). POW! WOW! Hawaii Sacred Canoe Hokulea Project

Right after setting up the Taiwan event (introduced), the POW! WOW! Hawaii family got back to work taking part in an interesting project with The Polynesian Voyaging Society in Honolulu. What they put together was focused on the sacred canoe Hokulea on which legendary lifeguard and surfer Eddie Aikau lost his life while trying to get help for his friends between the Hawaiian and Tahitian island chains. Upcoming: POW! WOW! Taiwan

Although the first POW! WOW! event was held in Hong Kong, the last four years have seen the annual art gathering held in the tropical paradise of Hawaii (see this year’s coverage). Not only has the main event gotten bigger and better each year, POW WOW! will now be expanding worldwide with the first satellite event to be held in Taiwan from May 28 to June 3. After 15 years, Brooklyn-based artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel returns to London at the Dairy Art Centre, with an exhibition titled Every Angel Has a Dark Side. Bursting onto the New York art scene in the late 1970s, Julian Schnabel became one of America’s most famous living artists. But Schnabel’s artistic career was almost eclipsed by his second passion as a filmmaker.
