Giveaway / Releases: Kai & Sunny ‘Ghost Flower’ Screenprint

Kai & Sunny have just released a new screen-print entitled Ghost Flower as featured as a large format image at their recent London exhibition at StolenSpace, The Flower Show. We’re pretty enthralled by their dynamic imagery and thought that this image was one of the stand-outs of the show. The large format edition sold out at the exhibition, but now this smaller and more manageable edition can be purchased at Kai & Sunny’s website. Or, you may want to try your luck on our giveaway. Showing: Kai & Sunny – ‘The Flower Show’ @ Stolenspace

Kai & Sunny’s third solo show at Stolenspace just got an extra week’s extension to its run and now is open until Sunday 3rd July. AM stopped by last week to take a look at The Flower Show and meet up with the design duo. Their trademark large format monochromatic screenprints sit well in the industrial styled surroundings of the gallery with the stark tones of the images accented by a silver glitter within the screen-printing ink. As the title suggests, nature is again the [...]

Openings: Kid Acne – ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’ @ StolenSpace

Kid Acne’s latest solo exhibition kicked off this week at StolenSpace and AM went along to see the work for ourselves at the opening on Thursday evening. We called in to see Mr. Acne earlier this month at his studio in Sheffield as he was putting the work together, but he still managed to pull out a host of surprises for us, not least in the centre-piece installation for Rhythm is a Dancer. A giant ashtray in the middle of the gallery floor housed some [...]

Studio Visit: Kid Acne

Kid Acne has a solo show opening on 31st March at London’s StolenSpace Gallery entitled Rhythm is a Dancer which we at AM have been anticipating for a while. He has been spending time between Paris and the UK of late where we’ve seen him pasting his series of Art Fags on the streets. Acne has recently returned to his UK base of Sheffield, where is has taken up a studio space to prepare a new body of work for the upcoming show. We recently [...]

Openings: Mysterious Al – ‘The Doomsday Papers’ @ StolenSpace

After more than ten years in the game, Mysterious Al finally got around to opening his first solo show The Doomsday Papers at StolenSpace this Thursday. When planning your first show, it must be a worrying time: Will anyone show up? Will they like the work….? It turns out Al’s show was the most packed we’ve seen at StolenSpace for a long time, and everyone AM spoke to enjoyed the work. We had a hint of what sort of work Al was making for this show when [...]

Studio Visit: Mysterious Al

Mysterious Al has been making graf-ically inspired art for years, and has been someone that we have frequently seen in group shows around the globe. As one of the original members of the Finders Keepers set along with D*Face, PMH and Dave the Chimp, he was at the axis of the UK street art scene in the early 2000′s. Finders Keepers was a series of DIY / illegal street art exhibitions where artists were invited to exhibit their work on disused shop fronts and on [...]

Preview / Setup: David Bray – ‘Disasters of the 20th Century’ @ StolenSpace

AM called into StolenSpace yesterday to see how the installation of David Bray’s solo show Disasters of the 20th Century was coming together. We enjoy the variety of elements Bray uses within his work, often weaving a selection of found materials and ephemera into his drawings, both inside and out the frame. What we saw at the gallery was a slight departure from his previous work that we’ve seen. Disasters narrows the focus of the work into a series of more traditional drawn and rendered [...]

Openings: Will Barras – “Bad Reception” @ StolenSpace Gallery

Following our preview post last week, AM spent some time with Will Barras at StolenSpace Gallery in East London during the set-up of “Bad Reception”, his latest solo show consisting largely of acrylic and spraypaint paintings on canvas. It was a great opportunity to chat with Barras about a variety of topics including the highly-influential French comics artist, Moebius — who worked on films like Alien and The Fifth Element, and whose drawings influenced Ridley Scott on the visual design of Blade Runner. Long-time friend [...]

Openings: Zosen – “System Collapse” @ StolenSpace

StolenSpace’s latest exhibition opened last week and featured a solo exhibition by Zosen. “System Collapse” is the Barcelona based Argentinian artist’s first solo exhibit in the UK for which he presented a series of colorful character based canvases alongside some text based work, a video installation and some hand knitted pieces including a couple of these fun looking day-glo balaclavas. We’d love to see someone wearing one of these around town – could be essential winter-wear for the East London hipster brigade! AM’s favourite piece [...]

Openings: StolenSpace Summer Group Show

AM got to the opening of StolenSpace’s annual Summer Group Show last week to find a line of people queuing out of the door! A packed house came out to see what we found to be a very strong grouping of work from an interesting mix of artists, some old StolenSpace favorites, but a lot fresh names – some new to the gallery, and some new to the London scene. Chloe Early is one of our favorite painters from the StolenSpace roster, and her new [...]
