Preview/Setup: BOXI – “Grey Area” @ Carmichael Gallery

AM is excited about Berlin-based stencil artist BOXI’s debut United States solo show “Grey Area” opening this Thursday, April 9th at Carmichael Gallery. Best described as a “figurative Logan Hicks,” the photo-realistic effect of his work is the result of a meticulous and labor intensive process involving six separate layers of hand-cut stencils and an equal variation of grayscale coats of paint. This unique technique combined with his formal training at London’s St. Martins School of Art and Design lends to pieces that are rich, […]

Preview/Interviews: Daniel Danger & Dan McCarthy – “The Watcher in the Woods” @ Gallery 1988 SF

Daniel Danger and Dan McCarthy will be debuting their latest show, “The Watcher in the Woods,” tonight at Gallery 1988SF. Fresh off the success of their Los Angeles group show “Idiot Box,” G1988 is certainly coming correct, bringing together these two amazing talents for the first time. Known primarily for their fine-art prints and collectible rock concert posters, the Daniels will both be on hand for the opening. AM had the opportunity to sit down with both artists before the show opens. Check the interview […]

It’s currently 7:15 pm in Sydney, Australia at the MTV Gallery where Ian Francis’ new exhibition (previewed) has just opened it’s doors to numerous excited Aussies ‘Down Unda.’ Since most of the world may not be able to attend the pop-up Semi-Permanent exhibition as our friends in the southern hemisphere, AM thought it would be nice to share an online viewing of Ian’s latest body of work. More images after the jump.

Miss Bugs and Joe Black are opening up the fresh show “2 Many Artists” at the cutting edge Brooklynite Gallery this Saturday, 4/4. The show hosts the talents of these two unique United Kingdom street artists that are anything but trite. Miss Bugs creates some awesome works by wielding silkscreens, collages and whatever is lying around to assemble relevant pop images that stir the imagination. Joe Black creates photo realistic images via found mediums such as Legos and ball bearings. Can’t wait for the show to […]

Preview: Phil Frost – Paperweight show @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Fresh from his recent visit to Dubai, Phil Frost is coming to New York for his first show with Jonathan Levine Gallery. “Paperweight” is looking like a wild one as Frost is showing up with a rare paper show. Famous for his baseball bats which are layered freehand in correction fluid to form patterns so intricate that people swear he uses a stencil, Frost decided to deviate and create a new series of works on paper. The result is a breath taking mix of street […]

Matt Small’s long awaited solo show “Youngstarrs” opens at Black Rat Press on Friday, March 27th. Small has developed a unique style of portrait painting which he uses to acknowledge and passionately celebrate individuals on the outskirts of society who are typically ignored or routinely demonized by the media through no fault of their own. Small’s following has been building for some time and this show features a new body of work on salvaged metal and concrete as well as some canvas pieces – definitely […]

Preview: Chris Anthony – “Venice” @ Corey Helford (Special Exhibition Space)

Award winning photographer Chris Anthony is back with a new series of works hosted Corey Helford Gallery opening March 28th. The show entitled “Venice” is set to a theme where the world is submerged in an icy, overcast, and flooded landscape. Think of intriguing subjects shot and showcased in a dreary “Waterworld” setting. Breaking into the scene and hitting his stride as a photographer of gaudy rock bands while just a teenager, Chris then took some time off after “retiring” at the age of 17 to direct music videos and commercials.
