Teaser: Shawn Barber – “Tattooed Portraits : Chronicle” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Shawn Barber, whom we visited with during his show in SF, will be opening his newest show, “Tattooed Portraits: Chronicle” at Joshua Liner Gallery near the end of next month.  The latest in a series of shows built around tattooed portraits of his friends (like one of Thomas Woodruff above) and associated paraphernalia will open on April 24th in New York. Teaser: Ian Francis – “Exodus” @ Lazarides Rathbone Place

After tremendous showing in Australia (covered), AM favorite Ian Francis (featured) is about to have another exhibition in his home country. Teaser: “Playboy Redux” @ the Warhol Museum

The 50th Anniversary of the first Playboy Club opening in in 1960 will be celebrated in style at the Warhol Museum at the end of this month.  Artists including Gary Baseman (featured), Tim Biskup, Shag (interviewed), Frank Kozik, Andrew Schoultz, SEEN, and of course Tara McPherson have been asked to reinterpret the iconic Playboy Bunny for the exhibition. The show will open on March 27th with a special pajama party and then to the general public starting March 28th. Discuss this show here.

Sloan Fine Art will be welcoming a new body of work from Edwin Ushiro at the end of this month entitled “”At Night, Lights Fell and Loved Ones Returned Home.” Ushiro’s nostalgic and hauntingly beautiful works are exactly that – paintings based on childhood memories and folklore typically involving ghost stories or the supernatural. We at AM are already looking forward to Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) solo show this summer after seeing a taste of what’s to come. Expected to fill both rooms of Joshua Liner gallery come June, we can only salivate thinking about the monster body of work that Greg is working. Teaser: Rosson Crow – “Bowery Boys” @ Deitch Projects

For one of Deitch Projects last hurrahs, the gallery will host “Bowery Boys,” an exhibition of new paintings by Rosson Crow. For the show, which opens March 4, Crow has used her adopted town of NYC as the theme for her bright and energetic large-scale canvases. Teaser: Barnstormers @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Just recently, the Joshua Liner Gallery gave notice that they were revising their schedule to include an exciting surprise show opening March 18 by the NYC/Tokyo-based artist collective The Barnstormers. According to insider information leaked to AM from a reliable source, the collaborative group (which includes nearly everyone whose anyone in the street art and associated scene) will be creating individual pieces and site-specific installations that will likely span beyond the walls of Liner’s spacious Chelsea gallery into another gallery space in the building.
