Earlier this week, we stopped by the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) to bring you a look at the epic show taking form that is being put on as a collaboration between the LBMA, Thinkspace Gallery, and the people behind POW! WOW!. Starting Monday, June 22nd, POW! WOW! We have included some photos of the actual walls these participants will be painting along with […]

Streets: Mehdi Ghadyanloo (Dulwich)

Mehdi Ghadyanloo was in recently in UK again, painting a new mural in Dulwich. This wall was an extension of his previous project with Dulwich Picture Gallery, where artists are invited to reinterpret classic master paintings from their permanent collection. On this occasion, the Iranian artist picked David the younger Teniers’ A Castle and its Proprietors oil piece from 17th century (shown bellow), and used its elements in his mural. In his signature style, he altered the architecture of the building by adding virtual pillars […]

Recap: artBGC ONE (Manila)

Last week, we shared with you some of the works Nate Frizzell (interviewed) created for the artBGC ONE Festival in the Philippines. We now have a recap of the other murals that were created by international artists like FAILE, Cyrcle., AkaCORLEONE, Kristin Farr, Drew Merritt and Filipino artists Egg Fiasco and Anjo Bolarda for the inaugural event curated by LeBasse Projects, and held in conjunction with the Bonifacio Arts Foundation (BAFI) in Manila. Our minds are still blown by the size of the piece the Cyrcle. boys painted (seen above).

Streets: Jeff Soto (Los Angeles)

While prepping for his solo (more on this later) opening at KP Projects / MKG later this month, Jeff Soto (interviewed) recently found time to paint a mural just down the street from the Los Angeles showspace. Featuring one of his signature owls, the piece located on La Brea and West 1st Street will greet attendees when the show opens on June 26th. Take a look at more detailed and in-progress shots below… Photo credit: Jordan Ahern. Discuss Jeff Soto here.

Showing: “1/81” @ Museu do Côa

On May 30th, Museu do Côa in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Portugal, opened 1/81, a group show presenting the newest works of some of Portugal’s contemporary and urban artists. The name of the show comes from the relation between our home planet and the Moon (Earth’s only natural satellite has 1/81 of its mass). In this context, the curator of the show saw the relation of the modern society and the post-digital and new media generation. As a central part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of CPS – Centro Português de Serigrafia (Portuguese […]

[…]

Streets: Pejac (Seoul)

After recently visiting Hong Kong (covered), Pejac recently stopped in Seoul while continuing his Asian tour. Seeing as this was his first time in the country, the Spanish artist used this opportunity to leave his mark around the South Korean capital. Armed with only a brush and a cup of paint, he created some more window works in his hotel room, as well as two street pieces influenced by the land and culture he’s in. Icarus is an image Pejac introduced a while ago in the form of […]

Previews: Thierry Noir – “Jazz” @ Howard Griffin Gallery

Legendary Berlin-based artist, Thierry Noir, is currently in London, setting up his upcoming show Jazz with Howard Griffin Gallery. The artist who painted miles and miles of the notorious Berlin wall during its most turbulent history, is creating an extensive show that will include canvases, installations and sculptures, all influenced by the vibrant world of jazz, and will open on the 25th of June. When the French-born artist moved to Berlin in the 80s, he also moved to the capital of alternative music at that time – […]

Streets: El Mac – “Nuestra Gente” (Phoenix)

Some of El Mac’s most breathtaking murals are collaboration with graffiti artists where his ethereal portraiture is overlaid against a background of urban letterforms. Nuestra Gente, created earlier this year in Phoenix, Arizona, certainly fits the bill when he collaborated with local legends Mando Rascón & Pablo Luna. The background designs seen around the face were painted by Rascón and the outer images on the ends of the mural were laid down by Luna. Created in downtown on Van Buren Street, the sublime wall near where the Los Angeles-based artist […]
