After sharing one of the first murals painted for this year’s ALT!rove – Street Art Festival from Clemens Behr, it’s now time to give you a recap of the event. The theme of the public arts program for this year was abstraction and the curatorial staff did a good job choosing the right artists for the job. What started out as a sunny Saturday morning eventually turned into nearly five spotty days of thunderstorms, coastline flash flooding and Maya Hayuk relentlessly riding out the storm in pursuit of her craft. As the weather went from bright, blooming and beautiful to dark, dreary and dismal, so also morphed the aesthetic of this incredible wall. We just received these photos of new works by Pejac created few days ago in Hong Kong. The artist who is known for his witty concepts recently spent a few days in a former British colony leaving several diverse works throughout the city. Tackling the problems of overpopulation and limited rights, the “Umbrella Revolution” as well as Chinese tradition, most of the works were very small in scale but large in their message. One of the London’s living street art legends and nowadays accomplished painter known for his photorealistic oil paintings and graphite drawings, Lucas Price (featured) is releasing new limited editions soon. More than a year since his last release through Lazarides Editions, these new offerings are based on his popular portraits and will be hand-finished with colored pencils. On the 29th of May, Montana Gallery Barcelona opened a two men show featuring works by Argentinian artists Elian and Pastel. Though significantly different in their use of visual language, the two artist put up a coherent and well balanced show juxtapozing their works and creating a collaborative mural inside gallery space. Last week, JR (interviewed) completed the latest installment of his ongoing project The Wrinkles Of The City in Turkey. The series which has seen the French artist paste up large scale photographs of the older citizens of various cities has already taken him to Cartagena, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Cuba, and Berlin since 2008. Take a look below as JR and his team navigated the vibrant streets of Istanbul as well skillfully worked with the architectural elements they encountered. Discuss JR here.

Berlin-based artist James Reka is currently in Milan, adding the final touches to his upcoming solo show opening at Avantgarden Gallery on June 4th. While travelling to Morocco for the opening of Main Street show at Mohammed VI Museum (MMVI) of modern and contemporary art (covered), as well as taking part in the Jidar street art festival there, Maya Hayuk made a stop in Paris to work on her new limited edition fine print. The always outspoken Ben Eine did his part to help paint Coney Island every color in the rainbow.
