Previews: “Moleskin V” @ Spoke Art

On April 7th, the fifth edition of the moleskin group show will be opening at Spoke Art in San Francisco. Moleskin V is curated by gallery owner Ken Harman and Sydney-based artist Rod Luff and features artworks created directly onto the ubiquitous moleskin sketchbooks that are commonly used by artists around the world. Releases: Travis Louie – “Mr. Stephenson And The Bug” Print

Fans of Travis Louie’s (interviewed) fantastical painted faux vintage photographs will be glad to hear that Pressure Printing has just released a new print entitled Mr. Stephenson And The Bug. Earlier this month, Roq la Rue welcomed back Travis Louie for his Archive of Lost Species solo show. Louie’s finely rendered acrylic paintings are once again on display, with his usual recipe of the odd and imaginary. Tonight in Seattle (May 7th), Travis Louie (interviewed) will be revisiting Roq La Rue for another showing of his vintage photography inspired paintings of imaginary creatures, created in a style self-described as a kind of “cryptozoology.” Entitled Archive of Lost Species, the fresh new pieces are a collection of fantastical characters, unique in their size and circumstance, many posing next to their human counterparts. The LA Art Show is set to open today through the end of the weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Like last year, there will be a special section devoted to low brow, pop surrealism, and the new contemporary art movement entitled Littletopia (see 2014).
