Teaser: Armory Week ’11 – Mark Jenkins – “Family Room” @ Carmichael Gallery (Volta)

Continuing our look at this year’s upcoming Armory Week in New York, we turn our attention to the Carmichael Gallery who will have a booth at the VOLTA satellite fair. The LA gallery will be presenting Family Room, a installation of new sculptural works from Mark Jenkins converting their space into an unconventionally furnished family room which will in turn be his commentaries on the institutions of family and home. Ben “Eine” is currently in San Francisco preparing for his show “GREATEST” at White Walls set to open on March 12th. In conjunction with the exhibition, the London-based artist will be be painting his signature typography on various walls around the city, with plans for each letter of the alphabet to be represented (reminiscent of his recent alphabet street project). Following up on the sultry success of the first installment of Women: The Blacklight Paintings during Art Basel Week at South Beach’s Club Madonna (covered), Ryan McGinness will yet again be teaming up with Country Club and The Standard to initiate part two of the event-based project during this years Armory Week in New York. For those of you lucky enough to have today off work in the States, here is Ron English’s (featured) salute to the Presidents’ Day holiday. George Washington never looked better remixed with some comics and modified dollar bills. For those of you who missed Ron’s recent solos in New York and the LA area, he’s scheduled for another show in Texas at the end of March at the International Museum of Arts and Sciences. Coming up at the end of April, Jacub Gagnon will be bringing a whole new body of work to the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. The Toronto-based artist paints in stunning detail the interplay between animals and various chosen objects often with clever juxtapositions.
