Interviews: Todd Schorr

Todd Schorr’s show, “The World We Live In,” is fast approaching, set to open this Saturday, March 28th at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. Seen above is Schorr in his studio, holding up one of the smaller paintings for the show. As we have seen from this body of work so far, some of the show looks to be an outgrowth from the large “Ape Worship” painting that was part of the “Land of Retinal Delights” exhibit at the Laguna Art Museum. After completing […]

Ron English x Bigfoot x Jason Maloney Mural in Jersey City

Yesterday afternoon, one of our favorite contemporary pop artists, Ron English, along with west coast artists Bigfoot and Jason Maloney, injected a little extra life into downtown Jersey City. They blessed Hudson County Art Supply’s exterior wall in Jersey City, NJ with a huge, colorful, and collaborative mural.   It was a gorgeous day for painting. Even Jersey City Mayor, Jeremiah Healey showed up unexpectedly to show his appreciation and support for the project. Everyone was in good spirits and there were aerosol cans everywhere. […]

Fans loved the latest series of abstractions and were delighted that KAWS was pushing the boundaries of his creativity. This show is the first time there’s nothing identifiable with my aesthetic except the palette and the way it’s painted. There’s no X eyes. I feel […]

Shepard Fairey arrested in Boston

It seems that the Boston Police Department were not at all impressed by Shepard Fairey’s status as Presidential portraiture or his 20-year retrospective at Beantown’s Institute of Contemporary Art. According to The Boston Globe and Huffington Post, Fairey was arrested last night around 9:15pm as he tried to enter the ICA, where he was scheduled to DJ the museum’s sold-out Experiment Night dance-party (with tickets going upwards $500 on Craigslist). Police Officer James Kenneally stated the department had Jan. 24 warrants alleging the Los Angeles artist tagged […]

Dan May’s show “Slow Collison” opens this Saturday, February 7th at Copro Nason.  His lush environments and monsters are as eye catching now as they were when we first saw his work on flickr several years ago.  Of course, his work has evolved and become more rich with fantastic compositiona and “story-telling.”  Dan takes some time to answer some questions for us about his current show as well as plans for the rest of 2009.  Check the interview and some preview pics after the jump.
